Buzz Ambassadors

I visited a website today for a membership organization that associations belong to. They had what I thought was a really innovative way to build their membership. People could become “Buzz Ambassadors” and earn points for spreading the buzz about the organization and encouraging membership. It was set up kind of like a program to earn airline miles. I thought it was a great idea and something that I’d love to see more nonprofit organizations and associations try. These days there are many tools available to track “forward to a friend” type e-mails. That is one way that you could award “buzz” points. Another way might be bringing a certain number of friends to an event at the organization or hosting a cultivation party at your house for the organization or writing a testimonial that could be posted on the organization’s website.

What do you think about this idea? Post a note to the comment section or send me an e-mail if you have a program like this at your organization.
