Blogs as Content Management Systems
Debbie Weil, editor of Wordbiz, was recently in Chicago. She invited her e-newsletter subscribers to meet her in person. I thought that was a great idea. We had a great discussion about using e-newsletters and blogs together. The e-marketing world is a small world too. I ran into a guy I met in the e-marketing certificate course I took a couple of years ago at DePaul University and a woman who has actually read my blog.
Some people expressed concerns that since blogs are so easy to write, people are probably slapping stuff up that isn’t all that interesting to most people whereas with an e-newsletter you normally have an editorial process. Debbie thinks that one of the best ways to use a blog is in conjunction with an e-newsletter not instead of an e-newsletter and if it is a business blog, it still has to be well written and contain useful content. I agree.
But one of the most interesting things we talked about was the idea of using a blog as a content management system. Frederick Faulkner has done that. You can check out his website here.
