The Internet: Part of Everyday Life
The Pew Internet & American Life Project recently released an interesting finding about the importance of the Internet in the daily lives of Americans. According to the study, 88% of online Americans say the Internet plays a role in their daily routines. Of those, one-third say it plays a major role, and two-thirds say it plays a minor role. The activities they identified as most significant are communicating with family and friends and finding a wealth of information at their fingertips.
I can attest to this. I never use my phone book anymore. I use Google constantly. Next week I’m supposed to go on a cruise, but Hurricane Frances may get in the way. I’ve been e-mailing back and forth with family members and checking websites like “Weather.com, NOAA, the airline website, the cruise line website etc… etc…
I heard that the Internet is so important to teens that many would choose the web over TV. I do some volunteer work with some kids so I asked them if this was true, they said yes.
So, in case you were wondering how much attention you should put on your website and e-mail strategy, think about how important the web is becoming in your own life and think about the next generation.
