Online Fundraising Stats

Wired.com reports good news about increases in online fundraising. The article reports that Convio processed $40 million in online donations for its clients in 2003 – a tenfold increase – and Kintera processed $54 million in donations – a six fold increase. Convio and Kintera are two of the largest Application Service Providers serving the non-profit community.

The organizations that are having the most success with online fundraising are organizations that have a real strategy to cultivate, steward, and solicit donors online. Just having a secure online form on a website is not enough. I am surprised, however, that I often find nonprofits – even large ones – that don’t yet offer secure online giving at all. That is simply leaving money on the table. There are services that are nearly free and that require almost no technical expertise to get a secure online donation form on a website.
