E-Newsletters with Personality

Thanks to some help from my friend Melinda at Visual Communications in Seattle, I now have a better looking website.

Now I can feel better about promoting it.

Now a little rant regarding bad e-newsletters and a high five to one I recently saw that had something a little special.

One thing that I really hate is when an e-newsletter is not personal in any way. It isn’t even signed by a person. It doesn’t have a personality. E-mail is a one to one communication. It should have a personal tone and be from a human. If you click “reply” you should be able to reply to a real live human.

The e-newsletters I enjoy are the ones that include a little personality and give you that feeling of a one to one connection. A friend of mine sent me a great example of this recently. It was from Tara Mahady of Campagne.com

This is a company that sells fundraising software, but Tara’s e-mail was about the tattoo that she had recently gotten. Sounds a little quirky, a little crazy I know — but there is a point. Tara went on to say that the symbol she chose for her tattoo meant something to her and reminded her of the reason she got into the fund development field to begin with. It was because of passion and a desire to do something meaningful.

I liked the fact that she shared something about herself which gave her a closer connection to her readers.

You don’t have to show your tattoos or even tell anyone about them, but please do use a human voice in your e-mail and relate on a one to one level.

Let me know how I can help. And, please tell me if you read this blog. I’m not sure anyone has seen it yet.
